PEOPLE POWER FOR JUSTICE IN SCOTLAND
ELECTION 2007 General Election and Scottish Local Elections
A list of Scottish candidates is available at http://www.politics.co.uk/reference/scotland-candidates/ We urge you to contact your local candidates with your concerns. Now is your chance to make a difference. Suggested questions that you may wish to put to candidates: • The number of people and families affected by false allegations is increasing rapidly across the country. Many of these are due to the potential reward of thousands of pounds in compensation which is payable without a criminal standard of proof required. This element of financial gain is used by investigating authorities to attract and increase the number of alleged witnesses in a case. Potential witnesses are verbally informed of the possibility of substantial compensation payouts, or informed via advertisements placed in prisons. It is essential that this practice is removed from investigations. Should you be elected, will you call for the removal of this incentive?
• The rise in false allegations of child abuse damages children. The current child protection system deliberately harms children by unwarranted and intrusive investigations by professionals. Parents are currently unable to challenge any unwarranted investigation by deliberately being kept uninformed by the authorities. Children are separated from parents, refused contact with parents or siblings and their questions are ignored. In cases where allegations have been made regarding a child from another family, professionals working with the alleged victim are then transferred to the family of the accused, a clear conflict of interest which is considered perfectly acceptable by the authorities. Children who do not complain of abuse and who wish to remain with their family are ignored and considered to be in denial. Children, particularly those who are young or mentally impaired are bullied and badgered by the authorities, brainwashed over long periods of time, in one case this was over a period of 5 years (denied by the authorities) until the child’s will is broken and they begin to state what the authorities wish to hear just to relieve the pressure they are under. The pressure brought by these oppressive and intrusive investigations often creates the very problems that the authorities initially were trying to claim existed in the family, but have in fact been created by themselves in a perverse effort to support their involvement. Problems include, mental ill-health in parents and child, alcoholism, unemployment and neglect. The authorities consistently claim to ‘listen to the children’ but this only happens when the child is saying something they wish to hear. No family is safe from destruction by a social work investigation.
