SCAPEGOATS
Head and No.2 fired after abuse probe at school
By Norman Silvester
THE head and deputy head teachers of a school for problem children have been sacked after a police probe into abuse.

Principal Jim Hunter, 54, and his deputy Chris Johnson, 52, have been suspended on full pay for the last 15 months from Kerelaw School in Stevenston, Ayrshire.

Detectives are investigating allegations of physical and sexual abuse over a 30-year period at the school, which houses violent and disturbed children and costs Glasgow City Council £5million a year to run.

Hunter and Johnson are not under investigation and there is no suggestion they were involved in any alleged abuse.

The investigation relates to allegations made against care staff under their command.

An insider at Kerelaw said: "They have been made scapegoats for the alleged abuse."
